 Gabriel José de la Concordia García Márquez (Spanish: Gabriel García Márquez), pronounced Spanish: /ɡaˈβɾjel ɣaɾˈsi.a ˈmaɾkes/ listen (information) (6 March 1927 - 17 April 2014), is known simply as Gabriel García Márquez or Gabriel José de la Concordia Márquez. García Márquez, Colombian novelist, journalist, publisher, and political activist born in Aracataca, Magdalena, Colombia on March 6, 1927, has spent most of his life in Mexico and Europe. There were conflicting rumors as to whether he was born in 1927 or 1928, but the writer himself announced in his book, “Live to Aroy” in 2002, that he was born in 1927. García Márquez is known by his family and friends as Gabito, while Eduardo Zalamia Borda, assistant editor-in-chief of El Espectador, called him. In the name of Gabo, after deleting the last section. One Hundred Years of Solitude was considered one of the most important works in the history of the Spanish language by the Fourth International Congress of the Spanish Language held in Cartagena in March 2007. In addition to being Márquez's most important work, it was also the most influential work on Latin America. He is also known for other works such as The Colonel Has No One to Write to, The Autumn of the Patriarch and Love in the Time of Cholera.

He is also the author of many short stories, in addition to writing five journalistic works.

García Márquez was awarded the 1982 Nobel Prize for Literature in recognition of the short stories and novels he wrote.
