20 Effective Ways To Increase Your Website Traffic And Drive Traffic

Best Strategy to Increase Organic Traffic to your Site - Proficient Digital Solutions 20 Ways To Increase Traffic To Your Website

In this post, I'll show you how to increase traffic to your website.

You'll also see how I used these strategies to moved my site from zero to 430K + unique visitors per month:
Backlinko Monthly Users

It is getting better:

All of these strategies work well now.

With that said, here are over 20 ways to increase traffic to your website:

    1. Another guest "upside down"
    2. Repair and upgrade old blog posts
    3. Use the "Click to Tweet" links
    4. Optimize your content using LSI keywords (Latent Semantic Indexing keywords )
    5. Get more traffic from your blog posts with Content Conversion
    6. Follow the podcast
    7. Promote your site through the Blogger Outreach service
    8. Content relaunch strategy
    9. Create content that engages your readers
    10. Share videos on LinkedIn
    11. Hosting a giveaway competition
    12. Add "Sharing Players" to your content
    13. Re-target visitors with Facebook ads
    14. Reduce your bounce rate
    15. Post a long content
    16. Improve Google's mobile index first
    17. Create an active YouTube channel
    18. Post viral content
    19. Promote blog posts and videos on Quuu
    20. Re-post old articles on LinkedIn
    21. Use Question Analyzer to create insanely useful content
    22. Add attractive content to social media posts
    23. Improve your organic clickthrough rate
    24. Post more list posts
    25. Theft of competitors' movement sources
    26. Drive traffic to your website from forums
    27. Syndicate your content on the medium

Bonus strategy # 1: Post on social media in strategic times
Bonus strategy # 2: find more keywords with "Keywords Everywhere"

1. Another guest "upside down"

Here's the deal:

When most people read your guest post, they usually skip the author's biography section.

No-one can blame them ...

Most author resume boxes are buried at the bottom of the page, like this:
Autobiography author

This is a big problem.

If people don't see your link on your author bio, they won't visit your site.

Fortunately, there is a simple solution to this problem: the "Upside Down" Guest Post.

Here's the step-by-step process:

1. First, write a guest message as you normally would.

2. Next, include the Helpful Resources sections throughout your guest post.

These sections link to 2-3 helpful resources on the topic I just covered.

This is an example:
Additional resources

3. Finally, include your content as one of our Useful Resources.

For example, here's a guest post you posted a while ago:
Brian Dean is another guest

And I've strategically linked my content as a "resource to check":
Contextual link
And this link brought in 78% more traffic than the bio link of my authors.
Traffic resource

Very cool 

Which brings us to Strategy # 2 ...
2. Repair and upgrade old blog posts

This simple strategy resulted in a 50.95% increase in traffic in 7 days:
Increase in traffic

Here's exactly how I did it:

1. First, I found an old post on my site.

As it turns out, my guide to YouTube SEO was old:    An old guide

2. After that, I updated and improved the post.

Specifically, I added new screenshots:

Sprinkle it with new strategies and techniques:

And Old Strategies That No Longer Work Are Abolished:

3. Finally, I updated the new post to make the changes live.

In this way, traffic rose to that page like a rocket ship.

(Since this was an old post, as you can see here in Google Analytics, most of this increase in traffic has been organic traffic.)

Best Strategy to Increase Organic Traffic to your Site - Proficient Digital Solutions

This whole process took about an hour.

And I'm getting more SEO traffic than I would have earned from publishing a new post.

With that said, it is time for our third strategy ...

3. Use the "Click to Tweet" links

This is one of the best ways to get more shares from your content.

In fact, Click To Tweet links are one of the main reasons why this post from my blog has more than 6 thousand posts on social media:

Post builder list - social posts

With that said, let me show you how to make Click to Tweet links:

1. Look for something "Tweetable" in your content.

This can be advice, a strategy, a quote, or a little statistic.

For example, my prism has incorporated a bunch of list building strategies.

So every strategy on my list is deemed "Tweetable".

11 Types of Content You Need to Share on Twitter [Infographic]

2. Create a Click To Tweet link.

Head over to ClickToTweet.com and write your Tweet:

Tour · ClickToTweet.com

The tool will create a link for you:

3. Finally, include this link in your content.

When someone clicks the link ...
... they get a pre-written tweet to make it easy to share:
It's easy.

4. Optimize your content using LSI keywords :
(Latent Semantic Indexing )

It's no secret that SEO is one of the best ways to drive traffic to your website.

However, most old school SEO strategies don't work anymore.

This is largely because Google's Hummingbird algorithm has changed

Everything about SEO : Google hummingbird

Instead of just searching for keywords, Google now understands the topics.

(How big of a change has this update made? Google said: “Hummingbird affects 90% of all searches…” Awesome!)

the question is:

How do you make sure Google understands your content topic?

LSI lyrics.

LSI keywords are keywords and phrases associated with your target keyword.

For example, let's say you just wrote a post about social networks.

LSI words will be words and phrases like

And when Google sees these LSI words in your content, they say, "Awesome. This content is definitely about social media."

So: how do you find these LSI lyrics?

A great free tool called LSI Graph.

This tool spreads dozens of LSI keywords related to your topic:

LSI keywords: How to find them using tools and how they benefit in SEO?

Then, just sprinkle these LSI keywords in your message ..
... and you are all set.

5. Get more traffic from your blog posts with Content Conversion

Simple content conversion:

You can simply convert one of your blog posts to another format (like an ebook, video, graph, or podcast).

For example, I posted this case study on my blog a while ago:

30 SEO Checklist Must Haves – Lendvo

this post spawned a lot of social shares ...Comments

But I knew I could get more value from this content.

So I turned this post into a YouTube video:
How to Get Top Google Rankings - YouTube Videos

This single video has generated over 475K views ... and hundreds of website visitors.

(All from a piece of content I posted years ago.)

This is the power of content conversion.

6. Follow the podcast

Podcast is exploding.

(In fact, one survey found that 26% of Americans regularly listen to podcasts.)

Does this mean you should get the closest microphone and start podcasting?

No.

Instead, I recommend sticking with others' podcasts as guest.

This strategy works so well that I try to keep streaming 2-3 podcasts per month.

In fact, she has appeared in over 100 podcast episodes:
Start off on the podcast

These workshops have brought me tens of thousands of visitors.

For example, it once received 984 visitors in its 60 days of one podcast episode:
[Visits from the podcast]

As a bonus, you usually get at least one backlink in your display notes, which can help with your search engine rankings:
Links from podcast
 Now is the time ...

7. Promote your site through the Blogger Outreach service

So I just posted an awesome piece of content.

What now?

Time to promote it with outreach through blogger.

In fact, one of my most recent blog posts had a massive traffic spike largely due to one tweet from an influential blogger:
Traffic surges

the question is…

How do?

All you have to do is find bloggers sharing content on your topic ...

... and send them a non-urgent email.

Here is a real-world example of this process in progress:

First, I sent a personalized email to a blogger who had already shared content on my topic:
Email to contact Blogger

(That way, she knew she really wanted to read my post ... before I hit Send.)

When she got back to me, I sent her a link to my content:
Email string

(Pro tip: Don't ask the person to post your post. If they think your content is good, they'll post it.)

Since I was not a reckless person, this blogger was happy to spread the word:
Outreach response

Thats all about it.
8. Content relaunch strategy

This is similar to Technique # 2 of this guide ...

... with a significant development.

Instead of just optimizing your content, you can restart it completely.

In other words:

Treat your new and enhanced content like a brand new post.

For example:

I recently revamped and relaunched this list of SEO copywriting techniques as the ultimate guide:
Article re-launched

So she shared the post on social media:
SEO Text Writing - Restart the tweet

Sent an ad to newsletter subscribers:
SEO Newsletter

Resulting in a significant increase in traffic (including nearly 10,000 visitors in a single day):
SEO Text Writing - Increase Traffic
9. Create content that attracts influencers

Here is the truth:

If you want influencers to share your content, then you need to write things that directly appeal to that group.

Example:

A few years ago, I created an investment client graph.

Although this convenient place is far from "interesting", our infographic has spread. We are talking about thousands of targeted traffic in the first couple of days.

Here is the infographic:
Customer Info Map

Now there are dozens of reasons this graph has performed so well ... from design to your content promotion.

But a large part of his success was due to one simple thing:

She appealed to influencers in personal finance.

I will explain.

I noticed, at the time, that a lot of influential financial bloggers were ready to inflate:
Article Inflation

So I decided to create a graph that shows the problem they are interested in.
This led to posts and references in several sites of the authority ...
Mentioned on the authority website

... and traffic.
10. Share videos on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is growing rapidly.

In fact, this study found that the number of people sharing things on LinkedIn increased dramatically a few years ago:
Share linkedin stats

That's cool and everything. But how do you use LinkedIn to increase traffic to your website?

Post video content.

For example, this is a video I posted on LinkedIn:
Linkedin sharing 3

In about two weeks my video got:

Try to get this type of post on Facebook

And now it's time to show you another great way to

Get people to visit your site ...
11. Hosting a giveaway competition

People love free stuff.

(There is no surprise.)

But what might surprise you: You can use free stuff to boost traffic.

How do?

Host a giveaway contest.

Here's an example of a contest my friend Noah Kagan put out recently:
An example of a giveaway

See how this works?

To enter the contest, people need to enter their email address (which you then add to your email list).

It is getting better:

You can motivate people to share your contest with their friends:
More entries

(These posts will increase traffic to your website and expand your email list.)

right Now:

This competition is conducted with KingSumo. But if you have the technical knowledge, you can prepare it yourself.
12. Add "Sharing Players" to your content

In my experience, content succeeds or largely fails based on one factor:

Whether or not the content contains sharing triggers.

What are Post Triggers?

They are things you include in your content that get people to share it.

Many of these principles were first discovered by behavioral scientists such as Dr. Jonah Berger, Dr. Kathryn Milkman, and Gore Leskovic.
A research study of viral marketing

And they proved in the lab what I discovered through trial and error:

When you include sharing engines in your content, people are more likely to share and relate to it.

For example:

Social currency is one of the strongest drivers of sharing.

Social currency is the idea that we share things that make us look good. This sharing trigger is a big part of the reason why the previously mentioned deflationary dollar chart was so good.

Specifically, this chart confirmed what influencers were already saying: Inflation is a huge problem.

And my content backed them hustle with accurate data:
Infographic data

Every time an influencer shared my infographic with their audience, it boosted their social currency.

So they shared it ... over and over again.

It's even included in Google News thanks to a feature in The Christian Post.
Google News

All because I have strategically added a 'social currency' sharing engine to my content.

Very cool.
13. Re-target visitors with Facebook ads

Let's face it:

Facebook ads have become very expensive.

Fortunately, I found a small "loophole" that helped me get laser-targeted visitors for a pittance:

Retargeting.

Here's how it works:

First, create a Facebook ad that sends people to a blog post.

Here's an example from real life:
Facebook ad

Next, target people who have visited your site in the past month or two:
Facebook audience

Finally, run the ad.

And you'll likely find that CPC is very cheap compared to most other types of ads (like Google Adwords).
CPC for a Facebook ad

Nice.
14. Reduce your bounce rate

A high bounce rate hurts your site's page views, conversions ... and it can also hurt your SEO.

(In fact, thanks to Google's RankBrain algorithm, bounce rate is now a very important ranking signal.)

This is the bad news.

The good news is that improving your bounce rate is very easy.

I guide you through the whole process in this short video:
15. Post a long content

After a while, BuzzSumo analyzed a million articles.

why?

They wanted to know which types of content worked best.

They found that long content gets more posts and backlinks than short posts (fewer than 1,000 words):
Content length effect analysis

In fact, as you can see in the graph above, long content (> 3K words) gets an average of 208% more shares than short articles.
I noticed the same thing myself.

For example, here's a long blog post from my blog (a giant list of SEO techniques):
Backlinko - SEO techniques

This guide is an amazing 6,558 words.

And the simple fact that my post is unreasonably long is a big reason I have shared it 13,995 times:
SEO Techniques - Social Posts

(These posts have sent over 50,000 visitors to my website.)
16. Improve Google's mobile index first

As you may have heard, Google has introduced its "Mobile-First Index":
The first index for mobile

This update means that Google is now calculating the mobile version for your site first.

(This also means that Google has largely ignored the desktop version of your site.)

And therefore:

How do you know if your site is mobile optimized?

Well, Google has created a free tool to do just that: Mobile Compatibility Test.

This nifty tool tells you if your site is appropriately optimized for mobile devices ...
Mobile-friendly results

... and it provides you with specific recommendations for improving your site:
Mobile recommendations

I also recommend checking out my guide to mobile optimization.
17. Create an active YouTube channel

If you want to drive more traffic to your website, YouTube should be on the radar screen.

why?

YouTube is the second most popular site on the planet (after only Google):
LikeWeb - Best Ranking Sites

In fact, YouTube is one of the top 5 traffic sources (along with Google, Facebook, and referral traffic from blogs).

Thus he said:

Getting views on your YouTube videos is tough.

But it doesn't have to be.

That's why I'll direct you to two resources that will help you get more views of your videos.

This guide shows you

All you need to know about ranking your videos in YouTube and Google.

It covers keyword research, video tags, and more.

Resource # 2: YouTube SEO: How to Rank # 1 in YouTube

This video will show you 9 tips that helped me rank 1 on YouTube for competitive keywords (like “SEO Lessons”):
18. Post viral content

Is there a formula for creating content that spreads very quickly?

No! Otherwise, everyone will

However, there are 3 things you can do to increase the odds that your content will spread like wildfire.

1. First, viral content tends to have a lot of visuals.

These images can be a group of images. Or a graph. Or a video.
The type of image does not matter much. The important thing is that you use images in your content.

why?

Industry studies show that image-rich content gets 90% + more social shares versus full-text content:
Photos of most posts on social media

2. Second, viral content tends to have a high 'interest'.

It simply means that your content is very useful in some way.

You might show people how to steam broccoli.

Or teach them how to validate their job interview.

Either way, research shows that highly practical content has a very high chance of spreading viral.

3. Finally, the viral content needs an initial "push" to get started.

For example, Chris Gimmer received more than 17,000 visitors to his site in a single day (thanks to a blog post that went viral):
Analytics

And it wouldn't have happened if Chris hadn't promoted his content on sites like Reddit ... resulting in hundreds of visitors in a matter of hours.
Reddit thread
19. Promote blog posts and videos on Quuu

Quuu is a very simple way to get people to promote your content on social media.

All you have to do is post your best content ...

... and they'll ask influencers to share it on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and more.

Some time ago I upgraded one of my posts on Quuu. And she got a bunch of posts from influencers in the digital marketing arena:
Social share

Not bad.
20. Re-post old articles on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a great place to post your content.

For example, I posted this study on ranking factors on YouTube on my blog a few years ago:
Backlinko - YouTube ranking factors

This post was good. Lots of people read my message and share it on social media.

But I know there were thousands of people who could benefit from my content ... but they haven't seen it yet.

So I reposted my content as an article on LinkedIn:
Linkedin article

Which (along with my other posts on LinkedIn) resulted in a huge amount of targeted traffic:
Linkedin traffic
21. Use Question Analyzer to create insanely useful content

This strategy is a great way to improve your content.

(You know, better content = more traffic.)

All you have to do is:

Find the questions your target audience is asking online.
Answer these questions in your own content.

Here's how to do it ...

First, use a tool like Buzzsumo's Question Analyzer or Answer Audience to find questions people ask:
Answer for example

Then, you can either create entire posts to answer these questions ...
A blog post that answers a question

... or incorporate answers into your own content.
Answer a question in a post

simple.
22. Add attractive content to social media posts

Here's a mistake many people make:

They share their content on social media ... without giving any reason to click.

This is an example:
Social sharing - link and text only

I do not judge. I used to do the same:
Brian tweeted without good reasons to visit

But recently I found out that something:

Adding content to your posts can greatly increase your click-through rate.

For example, when I tweet a new post, I now include a bulleted list of features:
Brian tweeted with good reasons for visiting

As you can see, this additional content leads to a large amount of engagement:
Brian Post's tweet

(And clicks.)

Sweet!
23. Improve your organic clickthrough rate

I have some good news:

If you want more traffic from Google, you don't need to rank higher.

(seriously!)

Alternatively, you can focus on improving your clickthrough rate (CTR).

For example, let's say you rank # 3 for your target keyword. And your click-through rate (CTR) is 4%.
Click-through rate (CTR) SERP 4

And let's say you multiply that click-through rate (CTR) to 8%.
Click-through rate (CTR) SERP 8

Well, you just doubled your organic traffic ... without improving your rankings.

But wait, there's more ...

Click-through rate (CTR) is now an important ranking signal in Google's algorithm.

So when you get higher click-through rate, it will also improve your search engine rankings.
SERP CTR RATINGS

So ... how can you really improve your clickthrough rate (CTR)?

Here are some tips that work great:

Add a number to your title (such as "21" or "98%")
    Write a compelling meta description
Test out different headlines and see which gets the best CTR
    Use very emotional headlines
Include your keyword in your URL
Let's dive into our next tip ...
24. Post more list posts

There is no way around it:

When it comes to increasing traffic to your website, the post list works well.

There is evidence to support this.

(Besides the fact that you are reading an existing post now. )

Like I mentioned in Strategy # 15, BuzzSumo recently parsed 1 million articles.

Well, in the same study they found that the list spreads out squats all other content formats:
Post-performance roster

As you can see in the chart, List posts got 6 times more posts than Sponsored posts (and 40 times more posts than Infographics).

And when I look at my content, I notice the same thing.

For example, this huge list of SEO tools is one of the most popular pieces of content I've ever written.
Backlinko - SEO tools

She got 20.6k posts and more than 1100 comments:
Share SEO Tools - Posts & Comments
25. Theft of competitors' movement sources

Imagine you can see the specific places that send your competitors' traffic.

That would be a goldmine, right?

Well, your competitors are not about to send you your Google Analytics password.

Fortunately, I don't need it.

why?

You can see all of their traffic sources for free using a similar site.

A similar site doesn't show you a great overview of site traffic ...
Traffic overview

... but exactly where do they get this traffic.
Referral sites

Gold mine.
26. Drive traffic to your website from forums

Forums are a source of underrated traffic.

By becoming an active and respected member of a forum, you have created a funnel ...

... funnel that brings people back to your website.

Let me show you an example:

When I first started building my blog, I was starting from scratch.

I had no follower, visitor, or email subscriber.

I know SEO and social media are two great ways to get traffic ... but they both take time to start working.

So, to give my traffic a head start, I became an active member of a marketing forum.

I answered people's questions ...
Forum response

... and even posting some original content:
Post forum

This led to an influx of sales to my new blog.
Traffic surges

Now is the time for our last strategy ...
27. Syndicate your content on the medium

Medium.com is one of the best places to share your best.

In fact, I recently received 310 targeted visitors in one week from an ONE Medium post:
Traffic than average 2

310 visitors will not change my life or anything.

However, there were 310 visitors, which took about 3 minutes to arrive.

All you have to do is republish your content (word for word) on Medium.

Here is an example of one of my postings on the broker:
Medium participation

Then, once your post is published, share it on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

(This post will give you some juice.)

And when Medium sees people engaging with your post, they will start promoting it within their platform.
Upgrade functional
Bonus strategy # 1: Post on social media in strategic times

So CoSchedule analyzed the best times to post on social media networks (including Facebook, Instagram, Google+ and more).

This is what they found:
Best time to post on the social media graph

As you can see, they found out that the best times to post to each network are:

Facebook: 9 AM, 1 PM, 3 PM

Pinterest: 2 PM, 9 PM, 2 AM

Instagram: 9 AM 5 PM 2 AM
Bonus strategy # 2: Find more keywords using "keywords all in."

Place"

Keyword research is the most important part of SEO.

the question is:

How do you find untapped keywords that not everyone and their moms know?

Keywords are everywhere.
Keywords are everywhere the home page

Keywords Everywhere is the Chrome extension that gives you keyword ideas, well ... everywhere.

Once the extension is installed, the next time you do a Google search, you will see the search volume and CPC data for that keyword:
Keyword data

Or the next time you shop for a toothbrush on Amazon - BOOM - you see keyword data based on terms Amazon suggests:
Amazon search
Now it is your turn

I hope this post showed you how to increase website traffic using some cool, untapped strategies.

Now I would like to say what you have.

Which technique from this post are you ready to try first?

Will you start promoting your content on Medium?

or

Maybe you want to publish an awesome listing post.

Either way, do let me know in the comments section below.

Hey Brian! Wonderful article. It is time for us because we are currently working on building our marketing strategy. My question to you is, what if there weren't many influencers in your field? Also, what is your process for finding influencers in your niche?
Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks John.

Good question. In this case, you might want to take advantage of a closely related niche with influencers. For example, let's say you run an e-commerce website that sells ladders. It is clear that there are no big names in "staircase niche". But there are a lot of influencers in the DIY and home improvement industry that's closely related. Logical?

Great post Brian- I can't agree with you more about not only creating great content, but creating 'the right' content.

This aligns with the transformation that I am planning to make this year with my content creation efforts for various projects.

To answer your question about influencers in my specialty, one project I'm in the middle of is more about social media automation tools, like Buffer.

So I think influencers in my specialty will be the ones identifying social media influencers who are using some kind of social media automation who are interested in streamlining their efforts.
Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks, Chris.

This is a good start. However, you may not need to look into this specifically. Just "social media bloggers" are enough to get started with them. From there, you can find out about their interests ... and design your content accordingly.

I thought trying to use skyscraper technology would be a good idea to create good content in my field because I'm in New York doesn't mean I'm a great writer. I started by using some of the tools I mentioned to find high-quality content that is already out there and viewed and shared a lot.

Do you think it would be appropriate for me to write some articles using these methods and then contact bloggers from places like TechCrunch or Gizmodo and ask them to share my content? What would you recommend promoting early stage content like me?

Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Steve Avatar Steve

OK I will.
My problem is that the majority of really popular bloggers in my niche spend their time bemoaning how feminism and the increased use of social media and smartphones are hindering their efforts to meet quality women. They are basically "rage" positions, designed to arouse men’s excitement because western women are fatter, more so, etc.
I do not have this experience. Nothing has changed much for me in the past 10 years. Instead, I focus on practical and informative content a man can contemplate and use to make himself more attractive to attractive young women.
The problem is, they don't look as popular as anger posts.
I have no intention of changing what I write (because it is what I believe in) (1) because I know my approach is more effective and that I am much better with women than these men are and (2) I think it's all a little frustrating and silly.
The traffic I get converts pretty well ... not enough of it.
So, tough problem, I think!
 Cheers

Steve

Steve, it seems that with your style, you can actually attract mainstream dating blogs. People like someone who takes a stand. So simply I say,

Hi Brian,
Thanks for the timely article. If I got it right, would you say it's better for us to look at market data in our niche and post an article about it for influencers to share rather than practical advice that your target customers care about? Shouldn't there be a dual strategy - articles for influencers to share and articles for users to enjoy?
Thanks Joss
Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Hey, Jos.

Great question. Here's the deal: In most cases, you can create content that attracts influencers and potential customers. But if this is not possible, you need to put the influencer first.
Robin Avatar Robin

Why do we put influencers in the first place because they are not the target audience?

Hey word Brian. Looks like I'm staring at the same place I have been for many years.

I am a qualified dietitian with 2 years clinical experience and have started a nutritional weight loss website - slimandtrimmeals.com.

The topics, the low-carb and high-fat controversy, and the vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free diets are currently hot as in all, are harmful to fats for you, the debate.

But my God, I am finding it difficult to get backlinks from other sites.

Hi Brian, I really enjoyed reading this post. Although it leaves a lot of unanswered questions, I am sure that you will address them in the coming weeks.

One of my clients is a plastic surgeon and he made me think about influential people in this field. The obvious answer is to say that they are bloggers in this area but I'm afraid it might not be that simple.

Do you have any tips for identifying influencers in a specific field?

    Hey, Adam.

Short answer: You want to look at relevant areas in that space. It is clear that there are no blogs on "office space leasing". But there are plenty of real estate and small business blogs that cover office-related topics.

Good read Dean,
I can't help noticing a single technique that I learned from the "website nutrition" days.
You mentioned in Step 1 that "in-depth" articles that contain links to research studies get more posts than short posts.
You are applying the same method here, with mention of the "Dynamics of Viral Marketing" research.
These tricks definitely improve backlinko's authority in general. I hope to see more about this in our SEO That Works program. In particular: How do you find such material?
Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

thanks. It doesn't really apply this technology. It's just telling the story of how I discovered these things 

Yes, and sometimes it's just creativity. I started a small blog on SEO / WordPress for fun actually ... there is no great content on it like here though ... but since the competition is so tough in these areas, I decided to take another approach. I have created quite a few WordPress plugins that users can download for free from wordpress.org ... and of course this link to my site so you get visitors every day.

For my Adsense plugin you can get it here https://wordpress.org/plugins/adsense-made-easy-best-simple-ad-inserter/ I have created a PRO version (https: //www.seo101. net / adsense-made-easy-pro /) available to those who subscribe to my mailing list. It's not that much but it gets me 5-6 subscribers per day. And best of all, I know exactly what my subscribers are interested in ... WordPress and Adsense :)

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

One question I have is how do you balance creating content on popular topics with creating good keywords? You can write on popular topics, but many major companies (like Copyblogger) have these keywords turned off.

Brian, you recently found your blog by following OKDork.com. Just want to say that you are really cool with the content that she brings here. It is very helpful, especially for someone like me who is just starting out. I am currently writing posts for a blog that I plan to launch later this year. I think my place is very wide and I must know how to narrow it. I basically want to write about my current journey to conquer my fears to start fulfilling the dreams I have in blogging, business, and travel. In doing so, I'll share the best tips, tools, and tactics I can find, along with what worked, what didn't, and why.
This was much more than what you asked ... But to answer your question:
Influencers: Self-help bloggers, lifestyle design bloggers, psychological websites and blogs that focus on overcoming fears.
Topics: Overcoming fear of success, overcoming fear of failure, achieving goals.

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Don't worry, AJ. Pleased to help.

I will definitely turn to one of these topics (like overcoming fears or starting a long-haul travel). You may want to customize this based on the topics I've included here.

Francisco Avatar Francisco

I love your post. I keep coming back because you always have great content that I can use in my work as well as share it. Since I own my own digital marketing company, I think you will be an influencer in the online marketing arena. I just started my business and because most of the influencers on Twitter talk about content marketing, this is what I have been writing about. But Omar

My site is only about a month old so I'll stay consistent in my writing. I am also in the process of changing my navigation bar so be aware how to get to what they want faster. Which would be "what is SEO", etc. Thank you and I love any advice you can give me.

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks, Francisco. In fact I wouldn't have to worry too much about consistency. I'll talk more about that in the next video. But other than that, you seem to be on the right track 

Brian, I've been looking for a keyword research guide, it's cool and I'm learning a lot: Dr. But I have a doubt. Do you think it is more difficult to develop a website and make money from a site in Spanish or is it the same site in English?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Jimmy, I'm not sure. I've seen people do great work in all kinds of different languages.

Thanks for the sharing. a house

Thanks, Peter. Right. I like to create things that are naturally interesting to influential people. If they like this topic, they will share it.

Hi Brian,
Big influencers in life insurance are other insurance agents and insurance companies (both of which are very difficult to relate to). I think it's easier to get links from personal finance bloggers. They talk a lot about how much life insurance you need, the right type, and a lot of them talk about just how badly all life insurance is.

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Hey Chris, this is a great example of finding influencers right in your niche 

I'm starting a blog about natural psoriasis remedies. I'm a bit stuck, because there aren't many psoriasis blogs with any large audience, but I think influencers could be other natural health blogs, paleo blogs, maybe even acne blogs?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

It's absolutely true, John. Natural health blogs and old blogs are perfect matches for your site.

Anne Avatar

Looks good to me, Ann. But it is difficult to determine without knowing your field of work.

Topics: Asian food recipes, Asian cooking techniques.
My goal is to introduce Asian recipes and coke techniques to Westerners.
Enjoy reading your post and learn a lot. Thank you so much!

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

It looks good, KP. You can also expand this to low-carb bloggers, fitness sites etc. They are always looking for healthy recipes and cooking techniques to share with their audience.

Giovanni Giovanni Avatar

This method really works. I got 10,000 posts on a piece of content I wrote by following the exact same process, about meditation, even though my blog was less than two months old. This piece of content alone spawned me over 1,500 new email subscribers.

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Rock on Giovanni! 10k shares and 1.5k subscribers is no joke. Very dazzling. We thank you for sharing your experience with the rest of the Backlinko community.

Dean Avatar Dean

Brian, great post as usual.
Question, this infographic that you did, how did you run it and make sure people link to you when using it ... instead of just taking a picture and posting it without a link.
Also, wholesalegoldgroup.com should be one of your old websites then?
BTW The site asked me for the captcha cloudflare code to enter the site, is there a reason for that?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks, Dean. It is a really old client. I stopped working with them a few years ago.

To answer your question, there is an art and a science to it. But when you connect with something influencers care about, they won't have a problem using it and linking back to your site.

Avatar Jeff Jeff

I get all this but how do you get your content in social currency to capture influencer attention when you are young? Links?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Jeff, I wouldn't have to worry about being a "little guy." I used this method myself and with clients when we had no followers at all. As long as you create content designed to attract your influencers, you can put your foot forward. But this step comes later.

Avatar phelicks phelicks

This might sound a bit dull, but how do I contact influencers after getting to know them?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

I'm not actually going to worry about that yet. The key now is simply to understand who they are and what they care about.

Michael Avatar Michael

Great post, Brian. I like your articles. I work in a niche that specializes in men's fashion. I have read many of your articles and therefore

I find it difficult to find content within my space that is very good. Do you have any recommendations for identifying "flat" content within a specific niche and using it to create content that can have a wider reach?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks, Michelle. I won't jump right in to find content yet. Instead, I have been spending some time studying the influencing factors in men's fashion. Once you understand it, your content creation becomes a lot more straightforward (and effective).

 Clemens Highlights Avatar Clemens Highlights

Hey Brian, the knowledge bomb as usual.
However, I feel that aggregating all the stuff that influencers share, filtering out what's relevant from what's not ... and ultimately customizing it to define the exact type of hot content in order to create our own is a bit vague. Influencers share a lot of content on a daily basis - how do you define exactly which topic base you will use to build great content guaranteed to share?

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

    Thanks Clemens.

There is no guarantee that your content will be shared ... even if it is about a topic that your influencers are interested in. But it increases the possibilities dramatically.

In my experience, the key is to look at influencers like customers. Because they are, in a way, clients of your content. Study them and the answers will appear.

Hi Brian,
Great article as always. My wife is about to start a business about teaching mothers (mainly) how to shoot and edit small films for their loved ones for future generations (www.lovethelittlethings.com will launch soon). We've always struggled with thinking about and targeting related keywords because keywords like "video shoot" and "family movies" aren't really something that they're all about. Your article relates to other knowledge that we have come up with as it is clear that we need to reach the right people and get them to engage in order to spread their product because the purely focus is on keywords that I don't think will get us anywhere.
Keep up the great work.
Cheers
Kim

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

    Thanks, Kim.

I'm still trying to find some keywords that potential readers might search for. These keywords may be quite long (like "making family movies"), but they are better than no keywords at all 

Hi Brian! I enjoy reading your posts and using as much information as possible. I build and sell storage sheds and cabins. The problem I am facing is that there are no top bloggers on the market or dead link Wikipedia articles that have anything to do with my market. 95% of my traffic and sales are generated via paid Facebook ads. I'd like to get more organic traffic and you'll be interested in your thoughts on this.
Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks 

To answer your question, there are no big bloggers who only write about pennants. But there are actually hundreds in the closely related field of home improvement and DIY space. So I would study them and see what they were interested in. It might not be about barns, but that's okay. You can create some content on your site for influencers only.

J Michael Warner Avatar J Michael Warner

Thanks, Brian, I kind of thought that was the answer. I will work on it.

Thanks for the great information. I would say I need to rewrite some of my articles, but what I feel from reading this is that I need to post existing content in a different way.

No problem, Charlie. It is possible to go back and rewrite your articles with influencers in mind. Or you can start over. This is up to you.

Speaking of Social Trigger, I suggest the "Click here to Tweet" feature of your awesome content. You can highlight a fact from a section in a box and add a "Click to Tweet" button.
It has to be one of the best ways to create this small shareable content from your writing.

Good suggestion, Muhammad. I've tried this a few times and it seems to help.

Wonderful work Brian. This is a very important factor. Thanks for the helpful post. I am working on my company's SEO strategies and after reading your post, I now need to rethink my strategies. I will definitely try to implement this thing. I am very looking forward to your new SEO release.

My question to you is, how do I find influential people (bloggers) related to my field? We are in the business of geographic mapping, land surveying, asset manufacturing, sales and services. I hope you visit the site

My web (www.kkgeosystem.com) then you can reply to me.

    Avatar Brian Deane Brian Dean

Thanks, Amit. Since technology is high tech, you might want to target tech bloggers and journalists. I'll see what tech bloggers mention when they talk about geo-mapping. Then design your content around that.

You are right again. There is a big difference between 'great content' and 'relevant content'.

I love that! That's exactly who I am. I started my own blog a year ago and didn't realize how important influencers were. John Morrow said, "They are the people who work in the background and who should impress." It's kind of like opening a big show, done by the guests.

Even though I spent hours, sometimes even days working on a blog post, I always wonder how I could get traffic. And what I said here is exactly my problem, it is not the content, it is not read by anyone. Social media hardly works, but guest posting or somehow reaching out to influencers is an excellent idea.

Something I also learned recently is that we should literally "go after" the influencers of our niche / topic. So when we get the chance to talk to them, we will appear smarter.

Great advice here, just what Brian needed! Thanks 

I recently started a website that provides free craft templates for kids who love reading from 3 to 8 years old.

Influencers: Kids blogging and parents who love to read and do arts and crafts with their kids.

Topics: Children's activities. Children's crafts. The crafts are easy to make and affordable.

I've been trying to produce more content because I thought the lack of traffic was due to the small amount of content, but after reading your blog post, I'm starting to doubt whether or not this content is high-quality. I will definitely be doing more research on influencers in my niche, and now I have to figure out how to capture their attention with my type of content.
